On September 19, 2024, at the TSZOE-UIPI Condominium Renovation Professional Day in Budapest, Emmanuelle Causse, Secretary General of UIPI, presented how solutions like proposed in BuildUPspeed project can transform Hungary’s condominium renovation landscape. Focusing on modular, industrialized solutions, Causse explained how BuildUPspeed is addressing the need for faster and more efficient renovations within their different eco-systems in Spain, France, Austria, Italy and Netherlands.
A key part mentioned was BuildUPspeed’s strategy in the off-site prefabrication, allowing building components to be quickly assembled on-site, reducing both costs and disruptions for residents. Causse also emphasized that this approach is ideal to reach the EU’s Energy Performance of Buildings Directive (EPBD) goals, with 35 million buildings across Europe needing renovation to improve energy efficiency.
During her presentation, Causse also introduced the Market Activation Platform. She presented how this platform aims to connect stakeholders, including contractors, material suppliers, and homeowners, in a One-Stop-Shop (OSS) environment. By centralizing information and services, the platform streamlines the renovation process, making it easier for property owners to access the resources they need and for market actors to collaborate more effectively.
At the end of the presentation, a poll was conducted. It revealed strong support for the BuildUPspeed approach, with 46% of participants agreeing that modular solutions could significantly speed up and lower the cost of condominium renovations, while 48% believed they would help “to some extent.” Moreover, 87% of participants expressed the need for a centralized platform, underscoring the relevance of the Market Activation Platform in Hungary’s fragmented renovation market.
The event concluded with a panel discussion featuring key industry leaders, including Emmanuelle Causse, Matyas Den of the Hungarian National Association of Condominium and Condominium Managers, Erwin Mlecnik from CondoReno project, and Peter Laszlo representing Small Medium Enterprises in Hungary. The panel addressed the challenges of market fragmentation and how different type of renovation solutions can scale to meet the country’s needs.
