Driving Sustainable Construction: Reflections from the Drive 0 Symposium

Two weeks ago, our project coordinator Maria Sara Di Maggio presented the BuildUPspeed project at the Drive 0 EU H2020 Symposium, an event uniting key players in the construction sector. The symposium shed light on the pressing challenges faced by the industry, emphasizing the need to double renovation rates while minimizing waste. Notable insights from the discussions include the imperative to respect resource limits, voiced by circulatory expert Ronald Rovers, and the call to amplify renovation rates without burdening the workforce, as articulated by Sebastien Delpont from Energy Sprong FR.

The symposium underscored the critical role of policies in steering the industry towards sustainability, with a nod to the EU taxonomy’s Annex II providing guidelines for a circular economy transition. The event left us energized about the future, recognizing the necessity for an integrated interdisciplinary approach and a robust system to collect lessons learned from past projects.
